This Week in Stem

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. This year, each Friday, the 3/4 and 5/6 classes will be working on various projects that combine these areas together. Sometimes they are group projects, sometimes they will work individually.
This week, Both groups began the year with a small group, one day project to build the tallest tower they could from mini-marshmallows and toothpicks. Their resources were limited, but not their imagination. We discussed which shapes we saw, and what design elements helped to make the structure more stable, and which made creating the tower difficult.

The 5/6 graders also were introduced to their next project which will be to research, and then create and distribute a book about the Monarch Butterfly.
