The Circulatory System

heart2 heart1 heart3 heartThe 4th, 5th and 6th graders explored the circulatory system this week. Each group had a pig heart that they examined and dissected. We examined a specimen of an esophagus, trachea, set of lungs and heart all still connected with multiple vessels still intact. Blood from the hearts were also mounted on a slide and examined under the microscope. Also, the brain of a pig (though part of the nervous system), was available for the class to examine.
Everyone has been very interested in the different parts we have been exploring, and we have had a chance to share it with the rest of the school.
Next week’s fun are a stomach from a pig and cow eyes.

Thank you to the Pattersons and to the Reiserts for the donation of gloves for the students to wear!
