Staying active in winter weather with Taekwondo

It can be difficult to get outside and do our usual Physical Education activities when temperatures are below freezing and there are several inches of snow on the ground. McGuffey is fortunate to live only a couple buildings away from Oxford Martial Arts & Fitness—where we can stay warm, stretch our muscles, and learn about the art of Taekwondo!

According to the Oxford Martial Arts & Fitness website, Taekwondo is defined as “the way of the foot and hand.” Indeed, during our weekly sessions every Wednesday, our students have been learning specific techniques of punching and kicking that make the most out of our bodies’ strength and power. They also spend a period of each session learning how to stretch out their arms and legs, as well as learning helpful warm-up exercises.

It is wonderful to see the joy and excitement reflected on our students’ faces as they learn how to tap into the physical potential of their bodies, and Taekwondo also helps them better understand how to control their movements and act with mindfulness and intentionality. We are so grateful for community partners like Oxford Martial Arts & Fitness who help make our winter Physical Education programs possible!
