Students in Grade 3 were recently introduced to the task of writing a scientific research paper on the topic of bodies of water.

Each student was asked to choose a body of water from an atlas, trace the body of water onto tracing paper, and add some color to demonstrate the difference between land and water. Then, they had to research the answers to a series of important questions about their body of water (questions that related to the classic investigative 5 Ws: who, what, when, where, and why) and present this information in the form of a research paper. Each student wrote a rough draft, received feedback for revision, and then completed a final draft.

As the final step, each Grade 3 student will present their findings to the rest of the class over the next few weeks.
