Reading marathon

Recently, the intermediate unit had a “reading marathon”. They wore their pjs and brought pillows and blankets. They spread out on the floor and found spots to read.  Every 15 minutes they had a “lap” and had to go to a “checkpoint” and tell a partner something about their book (setting, characters, etc.) This activity motivated the students to read and to give them time to experience the joy of a great book.
