Primary Geometry

In the Primary Unit we have been learning about Geometry these past few weeks.  One of the lessons we have been doing is finding ways to make a rhombus, trapezoid, and hexagon using different pattern blocks.

Sorting the shape cards was another fun lesson.  Students worked with partners sorting the shapes into groups of shapes that go together. Students could use two, three, four, or even five different groups. Once the students were finished sorting, they made a shape poster.  The partners would glue each shape into the different groups they chose.

Then the partners had to decide on names for each group of shapes.  Some names of the groups were shapes with 3 sides, curved shapes, or 4 vertices. Last each group stood up in front of the class and explained their shape poster.

Learning Geometry is so fun. Nothing like hands on learning!
