As the weather gets colder, we won’t be able to enjoy as many gorgeous fall days outdoors, so we’re adding some options for indoor movement to our classroom. One of these is yoga. We keep yoga cards on the Sensory shelf in a little box. Children can get a mat and the yoga box, and do as many yoga poses as they would like. After a short introduction, they are able to figure out the movements from the illustrations on the cards. Most of the poses and breathing exercises are solitary; some require a partner, and these are special favorites. Other cards have yoga games for a larger group, and we are having fun leading “yoga classes”.
We are using the Yoga Pretzels cards, which are available on Amazon. They’re a great activity for rainy days at home as well!
