Last week we had our first session of our Partners program. Partners is a time-honored tradition at McGuffey where older and younger students are paired for special activities. Younger students love learning new things from the “big kids” and the older students have a chance to mentor, give back, and reinforce their existing knowledge.
Upper Elementary students accompanied half of the Primary students to the pond down the road. We are so fortunate to have access to this pond, thanks to the generosity of our neighbor, Mr. Conrad. Students had a chance to explore the abundance of the pond at this time of year and get to know one another. Mr Conrad keeps bees, so checking out his hive from a safe distance was a perfect companion to our bee unit this week.
There are few things as heartwarming as watching this special relationship between older and younger students, especially when we remember when these big kids were the little ones!
