One of our year long collaborative projects is a latch hook rug with our McGuffey Montessori logo. We started by projecting the image onto a large blank latch hook canvas. Upper Elementary students did most of the work on this part. Currently, students are working on the rug as a free choice option when they have a few spare moments in class.
The Lower Elementary class is doing a fabulous job teaching each other how to hook the yarns onto the canvas. Though I have taught only a couple children how to do it, about half the kids have been contributing already. Grades 4/5 and 6/7/8 have been busier working on class assignments but will have plenty of opportunities to join in over the course of the school year. If you happen to come down to the art room, feel free to hook a few yarn pieces!
