Our students in the Upper Unit are building a foundation in geography and enhancing their vocabulary as they learn some terms that geographers use. They explored landforms by using bread to shape and describe the features of Earth. Students tore pieces of bread and shaped them to represent each type of landform and labeled them on poster board. They are learning to recognize common landforms such as islands, lakes, peninsulas, gulfs, straits, and isthmuses.

Their real world connections included…
An island: Iceland
A lake: Lake Michigan
A peninsula: Florida
A gulf: Gulf of Mexico
A strait: Strait of Gibraltar
An isthmus: Isthmus of Panama
