This week in Music, Lower Elementary students worked on form and composition. Students in Grade 2 used the notes Do, Re, and Mi to compose a wintery song. Using pitched percussion instruments, they wrote then performed the final product.
Grade 3 students worked on form, specifically ABA and ABACA. Using the idea of building burgers where the bun is essentially the same on top and bottom, they wrote a 4/4 rhythm which then repeated every time an A section, or bun, appeared. The B and C sections were then composed, still in 4/4 time but with different characteristics. Their work was then performed using rhythm sticks.
Between the rhythm pizzas and building burgers this semester, one student noted we all may be a little hungry!
