Intermediate Read Aloud and 4-7 Science Progress Reports

We have just finished reading “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London in Intermediate read aloud, and to help us imagine Buck running off with a wolf pack at the end of the book, we watched the Nature video “Cold Warriors”. The cinematography is amazing, and the naturalist does a great job showing the dynamic between predator and prey. I encourage everyone to watch it with your student- it is well worth a second viewing for them! http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/cold-warriors-wolves-and-buffalo/full-episode/8187/. Next we will begin the book “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” by Jules Verne. This should accompany our Oceans Unit in Science well.

This Trimester the Intermediate and Upper students will be contributing authors for their Progress Reports. We have worked together as a class to write the overview of what we did this trimester, and each student will be meeting with me separately to write about what they have learned, were challenged by and are proud of doing this trimester. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to be reflective about their work, more thoughtful about their goals for next trimester, and just plain remember things they have learned that they have forgotten about. I am hoping that they will have an even larger role for their Progress Reports at the end of the year.
