Intermediate math

The third and fourth grade have been studying measurement. They have been exploring ancient methods, the English System and the Metric System. Recently we began using the metric system to measure volume, mass, and distance. Students worked in groups and, using some games, examined the relationship between their perceptions of different measurements and the real measurement. We will continue looking at the different kinds measurements we use in the world around us.

The fifth graders are working on their STEM projects, creating geodesic domes. They researched the subject of geodesic domes and Buckminster Fuller, and they have been working mostly independently to construct a geodesic dome. They have had to use a compass and a ruler to create multiple, precisely measured isosceles and equilateral triangles, and then assembling them to create their dome.
