The Primary Unit is having great fun exploring the world of insects. They have observed Monarch butterflies in all of their life stages, and have had the opportunity to release a few. Recently they have each “adopted” a mealworm by both creating a habitat for it and caring for it. As we get to observe them closely, we pondered whether a mealworm is an insect or a worm. Over the next week we will watch the mealworm go through different stages of its life cycle and compare it to the Monarchs.
The fifth and sixth graders are studying magnets and motors in science. They have determined what makes a material magnetic, how magnets were discovered, how they are formed and most recently, how we can measure a magnets strength. Next week we will create compasses and explore the connection between magnets and electric motors.
