This month we studied color, which happens to be this art teacher’s favorite element of art. Students mixed paint colors to recreate a classic color wheel using primary, secondary and tertiary colors. In addition to understanding how primary colors mix to create other colors, directions had to be followed mindfully in order to keep colors clean for mixing. This carefully controlled lesson was followed by more spirited and creative color wheels.
To conclude our lessons on color theory, we learned about value (the darkness or lightness of a color) and mixed black and white paints, creating a grayscale.
