Upper Elementary Math

Grades 4 and 5 have been working on a variety of topics in math these past weeks.  Some 4th and 5th graders are beginning using the Decimal Materials to look at how they can add decimals and “regroup” when necessary.  In addition, they are learning to write a decimal given either the fractional value or the written name. We began using the Centisimal Frame to find the fractional value of come common decimals (1/4 = 0.25).

Other 5th grade students are learning how to classify triangles according to the lengths of their sides and angles.  They began by building their own triangles, measured the sides and angles, and then classified each of their creations.

6th grade students have started their work in Pre-Algebra.
